The city of Kirkland bought the former Costco Home store in Totem Lake Wednesday and plans to convert it into a new public-safety building.
The city paid Dayhu Investments of Vancouver, B.C., $10.5 million for the 103,000-square-foot building. It will house the police department, jail and municipal courts, a city spokeswoman said.
Costco closed its two Home stores in Kirkland and Tempe, Ariz., in July 2009 after concluding the outlets didn’t fit with the company’s long-term plans. The stores sold furniture and other home furnishings.
Another home-furnishings business now occupies the building.
