Construction crews break ground on the Space Needle for the World’s Fair
Seattle’s favorite icon will soon be turning 50 and they would love for you to be a part of the celebration!
They created a really cool site commemorating the event and would like the public to send in their photos albums, where you can share your favorite Space Needle stories, photos and videos. And because the Space Needle is all about making new memories, they will be giving away great prizes to a lucky few who share their old memories — including a party for you and 50 of your guests at the Space Needle’s SkyLine Level.

“I was young enough and inexperienced enough not to dwell on difficulties,” said Bagley Wright, 87, who brought together the group of investors and developers who would form the backbone of the project.Those men included contractor Howard S. Wright, financier Ned Skinner and timber magnate Norton Clapp, along with Eddie Carlson, then a hotel-company president whose crude sketch in a restaurant in Stuttgart, Germany, became the fodder for Graham, the architect, who had designed Northgate Mall. Together, they overcame skepticism, regulations and, ultimately, a tight time line to get the Needle open for the start of the fair.-Seattletimes.comIt seems like in those days people were very creative with big imaginations that have given us so many things we take advantage of everyday. This is a great example of why I do, what I do everyday. Who would have thought 50 years ago that this piece of real estate architecture would be an icon here in Seattle. When you are bringing people together for a project and holding on to that vision what a proud moment that it is still standing after all this time.
